Accommodations in Wells and Area
The unique artistic community of Wells is nestled in a picturesque setting of mountains and lakes, providing the perfect environment for a holiday. This little 1930s mining town is as friendly now as it was in its mining heyday. Comfortable hotels, motels, bed and breakfasts and RV hook-ups cater to a range of travel budgets and tastes. There are several campgrounds in the area.
Wells is located in central BC. By car it is about a day’s drive from Vancouver, Calgary or Edmonton. Quesnel, the nearest town, is 80km from Wells, while Prince George, the largest city in the north, is about 200km away. Both are served by air and bus.
You can dine at great local restaurants and visit shops and galleries that feature the work of local and regional artisans. Hiking trails and pleasant walks are easily accessible, Barkerville Historic Town is only 8km away, and world-renowned Bowron Lake Provincial Park is just a further 30km.

There were two ArtsWells campsites in Wells in 2011 – one at The Meadows behind the Bear’s Paw and one on the baseball diamond at the entrance to town from the Barkerville Highway. A camping pass for either site cost just $20 per tent for the whole festival weekend. Camping passes were purchased at the IMA office on Friday and displayed on a visible spot on your tent or RV. If you did not display your pass, you were asked to buy one. Volunteers walked through the campsites Saturday and Sunday mornings to check for passes and had some for sale as well. Volunteers and performers each got one free camping pass if they asked for one when they picked up their check-in packages at the IMA office.
