ArtsWells is Happening! Wells is not in any direct threat from fire. We are monitoring the wildfire conditions and the town of Wells has detailed emergency exit plans in place in the event of an emergency or a road closure.
Please do not follow shortcuts from GPS or iphone devices, they are incorrect. There is a current road closure on Highway 97 at Clinton, BC. If you’re travelling from the southern part of the province we advise you head through Kamloops, onto Highway 5 through Barrier, then on to Little Fort, heading west on Highway 24, then travel north until you hit the junction of Highway 97. The trip from Vancouver is only one hour longer now, taking 9 hours in total. This link shows the google map from Vancouver to Wells: http://bit.ly/ImOnMyWayToWells
You can find all the latest info about Road Closures here at Drive BC
You can check the latest info on the fires at the BC Wildfire Service here.
ArtsWells is held in the small town of Wells in the Cariboo Mountains of British Columbia. Because it is a small, rural town, getting here can be a little more complicated than other places, but it is well worth the effort!
Quesnel is the nearest city, approximately 75km from Wells. Quesnel has the nearest airport and Greyhound bus station. For the ArtsWells Weekend, there are many opportunities to ride share. From Quesnel, the ride opportunities increase, but there are many coming from across British Columbia, Alberta and Washington State.
There is public transit to and from Quesnel on Thursdays. Details on time and location are available on the District of Wells website. The bus costs $5 each way.
Every year, there is a Facebook page that is created specifically for ride sharing to ArtsWells where you can post requests or offers for rides. You can find it here: Rideshare Board, ArtsWells 2017.
There are a number of ride share board applications and we definitely encourage ride sharing both for the environment and for the friends you will make along the way. We don’t support a particular ride share site, but if you do, you could also post that to the Facebook page.
