Becoming, is a storytelling session with Indigenous creatives, Madeline Terbasket, the Snotty Nose Res Kids, and S.M. Steele. In her new opera,Â LiÂ Keur:Â Riel’s Heart of the North, Steele writes aÂ becomingÂ story of the peoples in her opera,Â lii Michif.Â Note, this isÂ notÂ a creation story based on the cultural provenance of peoples (hers and other cultures). This session looks at theÂ becomingÂ story, and challenges participants to listen, scribe, tell their ownÂ becomingÂ stories, and challenge cultural assumptions.
Sarah Zimmerman will be in the IMA Gallery to discuss her exhibition “The Fish Project.” She drew inspiration for this exhibition from the salmon and oolichan and their importance to the people of Northwestern BC, exploring the intersection of fish, culture and art.
Kay Gallivan is a multidisciplinary artist from Lkwungen Territory. She blends local biodiversity/people and psychedelic colour schemes to create portals to inner/outer worlds.
