Old-time Square Dance with Western Family String Band

Western Family String Band presents the uniquely North American social tradition of square dancing. The caller, Craig Marcuk, takes a few minutes to teach these super simple and fun dances while the band tunes up. When the crowd yells “FIRE IN THE HOLE!” the band kicks off and its a hoedown. Craig calls the moves throughout the whole thing. This is good old time wholesome fun and no experience necessary! At the end of this workshop you will know the basic steps to this old style of percussive dancing and get to try them out with a live band.

Intro to Contact Dance with River Ritcey

Contact Improvisation (CI) is a contemporary dance form which uses points of contact as a foundation for the exploration of movement.  It is a unique form of partner dance in which no one person is leading; the dance is formed through a balanced union between listening to your partner & listening to your own creative intuition. This workshop is for all levels and will offer an introduction to the fundamentals of Contact Dance as well as discuss key concepts for those with a more advanced understanding of Contact. Come and experience the joy of being in body, the joy of being present and being lost – the joy of co-creation through dance. This workshop is accessible to everyone – complete beginners and even those that may be concerned about physical limitations. Come and experience the joy of being in body, the joy of being present and being lost – the joy of co-creation through dance.

River Ritcey hails from Vancouver, BC where she spends her days creating community, chasing bugs, and teaching Contact Dance Workshops.
